BANÍKOV 2178 M.N.M.
Baníkov is the highest peak on the main ridge of the Western Tatras - Roháčov. It proudly rises above Žiarská, Roháčská, Bobrovecká and Jalovská valleys. The name Baníkov is derived from the mining activity, after which there are still traces in the form of a tunnel at the mouth of the Žiarska valley. Access from Žiarská dolina is possible in two directions. An easier option is the green marked footpath through Príslop and Jalovecké sedlo, the second option is to cross Smutné sedlo and Tri Kopy (formerly called Smrečské Roháče). This hike is challenging, but the experience of overcoming the Roháč ridge and oneself in connection with the views of the entire Tatras is worth the effort.
